Source: Pats to release Diggs after one season

(You know what? This whole Stefon Diggs release is a Fox River Fraud situation if I’ve ever seen one. And as a 20-year officiating veteran from Mukwonago, WI, let me tell you something: the verticality on this move is all wrong.)

(Diggs was supposed to be the guy who hated losing more than he loved winning. The Michael Jordan of the Patriots receiving corps. But instead, we’re getting a release because of cap issues and some legal trouble? Give me a break. That’s not the Will to Win I know.)

(And don’t even get me started on that Instagram post. “Thank you for a hell of a year. We family forever.” Are you kidding me? This is the NFL, not some Culver’s in Waukesha County where everyone knows your name and cares about your feelings.)

(Diggs should be out there fighting tooth and nail to stay with this team. He should be showing that Gunslinger Energy Level we expect from our stars. Instead, he’s just taking it lying down like a rookie who doesn’t know how to establish position in the paint.)

(Now, I’m not saying Diggs is perfect by any means. The legal issues are concerning and need to be addressed. But if he truly had that Winner’s Tax mentality, he’d be working with the team to find a solution, not just posting some weak message on social media and moving on.)

(The Patriots, meanwhile, have got some serious work to do to fill this void for Drake Maye. Because as much as I love Mack Hollins and Kayshon Boutte, they ain’t no Stefon Diggs. And DeMario “Pop” Douglas? Kyle Williams? Efton Chism III? Sounds like a bunch of guys who couldn’t even get a job at Kwik Trip.)

(Mike Vrabel’s right – No. 1 receivers are hard to come by in free agency. But that doesn’t mean you just give up and release the one you’ve got because things get tough. You draft them, develop them, and coach them up. That’s what winners do.)

(And let me tell you something else: this whole situation is giving me a serious case of Mukwonago Misery. Because as much as I love my hometown and its values, sometimes the NFL just doesn’t seem to get it. They don’t understand what it means to have that fire inside you, that desire to be the best.)

(But hey, at least Michael-Vincent and Blake are still young enough to believe in the purity of the game. Before they get too jaded by all this business side nonsense. Because at the end of the day, football is supposed to be about more than just contracts and cap space.)

(It’s about heart. It’s about guts. It’s about that Will to Win. And if the Patriots are willing to let a guy like Diggs walk away because things got tough, then they’ve lost sight of what really matters in this game.)

(So here’s hoping that wherever Diggs ends up next, he finds that fire again. That he remembers what it means to be a true competitor. Because lord knows the NFL needs more guys like that.)

One-Ry Out.
