The number is six. Caesars priced Caleb Williams at roughly six points on both the spread and the total, and once that lands, the entire Eagles-Bears board stops looking like noise and starts looking like a verdict.
Williams is officially out for Monday Night Football. Grade 2 right hamstring strain, the kind doctors typically put on a three-to-four-week clock. First start he has missed since Chicago drafted him first overall in 2024. Tyson Bagent is still working through concussion protocol and listed questionable. That leaves Case Keenum, a veteran with 66 career starts and a last regular-season start that already feels like ancient history, as the most likely option under center against a 2-0 Eagles team at Soldier Field.
The lookahead had the Bears as 1.5-point home favorites. After the injury it flipped hard to Philadelphia -4.5. It has since settled around Eagles -3.5 with the total collapsing from the mid-40s into the 42 range. That is not a gentle adjustment. That is the market ripping the engine out of Chicago’s offense and rewriting the price in real time.
The Six-Point Tax Is Already Paid
Joey Feazel, Head of Football at Caesars Sportsbook, put the math in public: “The market has effectively priced Williams as being worth roughly six points to both the spread and the total, highlighting just how significant his absence would be to the Bears’ overall outlook and offensive production.”
I believe him. Williams was 36-of-55 for 407 yards with two passing touchdowns and two rushing scores through two games, and he was sitting third in MVP odds before the hamstring went. Take that production off the field and you are left with a Bears offense that just scored three points at home against Minnesota. Keenum does not create the same scramble lanes. He does not stress the second level the same way. The Eagles’ front already plays downhill; without Williams they get to hunt.
Ty Gour at Fanatics called the whole situation exactly what it is. “This is a tricky one,” he told Sports Illustrated. “The Bears are telling us it’s going to be Case Keenum. Obviously, because they’re the Monday night game, they won’t hit the practice field until [Thursday]. So, until that happens, we kind of have to take them at face value.” Practice reports still matter for tick movement, but the final injury report already settled the biggest variable. Williams is out. The board already knows it.
Ben Johnson tried to keep the door cracked. “I’m not putting a timeline on this. We’re going to say week to week,” the coach said, adding that Williams is “a little bit different than the average human being” and has returned faster than expected before. Fine. Hope is free. The betting market does not price hope. It prices the fact that he will not take a snap on Monday night.
Take the Points and Kill the Total
My play is Eagles -3.5 and the under on 42 or 42.5, depending on the book. Philadelphia is 2-0, traveling into Chicago for a Monday night game, and facing a quarterback who has not started a meaningful game in years. The Bears’ home crowd will show up loud. It will not invent a passing game that is currently missing its engine.
The under is the cleaner side of the card. The total has already dropped nearly four full points from the original lookahead. Without Williams’ dual-threat juice, Chicago’s offense is stuck in a lower gear, and the Eagles are built to win ugly and sit on leads. A 42.5 total still feels generous when one side just put up three points with its franchise quarterback on the field.
Futures moved just as fast. Bears Super Bowl odds lengthened from +2000 to +2800 at Caesars right after the injury and have drifted further at other shops into the +3000 range. That is the correct direction. A three-to-four-week window potentially costs them the Eagles, Jets, and Packers. Even if Williams is the quick healer Johnson describes, the NFC is not waiting around for Chicago to get healthy. I am staying off Bears Super Bowl tickets until he is cleared and actually playing. The playoff make-or-miss number can wait too. Price the absence first.
The board already did the hard work. Williams is worth six points. The Eagles are laying three and a half. The total is sitting where a backup quarterback and a punchless offense belong. I am taking Philadelphia and the under, and I am not apologizing for following the number the oddsmakers already printed in public.
